Extension Of Storage Period Of Hazardous Waste Beyond 90 Days In Karnataka

OFFICE ORDER 
Sub: Extension of storage period of Hazardous Waste beyond 90 days as per the provisions of Rule 8(V) - Teg.

The Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change has notified the Hazardous and Other Waste (Management & Transboundary) Rules, 2016.

Rule 8 pertains to the Storage of Hazardous & Other Wastes which also provides for extension of period of 90 days in following cases namely. 8(v) in any other case, on justifiable grounds up to one hundred and eighty days.

Consequent upon the outbreak of CoronaVirus (Covid-19) and subsequent declaration of lockdown to take preventive measures to contain spread of Covid-19 has created extraordinary circumstances, wherein the Hazardous Waste may require to be stored beyond 90 days.

In view of the provision Rule 8(V), the Board hereby permits the occupier as defined under Rule 3(21) to store the Hazardous Waste beyond 90 days. However, the occupier shall ensure that the Hazardous waste is not allowed to store beyond 15 days after listing of lockdown.
