Transport Industry to be a Public Utility Service under Industrial Disputes Act,1947

MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 18th April, 2017

S.O. 1208(E).—Whereas the Central Government having been satisfied that the public interest so requires that in pursuance of the provisions of sub-clause (vi) of the clause (n) of section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), the services in the Transport (other than Railways) for the Carriage of passengers or goods (by land or water) which is covered by item 1 of the First Schedule to the Industrial Disputes Act,1947 (14 of 1947) to be a Public Utility Service for the purpose of the said Act, as was notified for a period of six months with effect from 22.10.2016 vide this Ministry’s Notification dated 07.10.2016.
And whereas, the Central Government is of opinion that public interest requires the extension of the said period by a further period of six months. 
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to sub-clause (vi) of clause (n) of section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, the Central Government hereby declares the said Industry to be a Public Utility Service for the purpose of the aforesaid Act, for a period of six months with effect from 22nd April 2017.
